FT. LAUDERDALE, FL, May 10, 2010 – Becker & Poliakoff, a diversified commercial law firm with more than 125 attorneys in 13 Florida offices, New York City, New Jersey, Nassau (Bahamas) and Prague, announced that attorney and shareholder Ellen Hirsch de Haan has been honored by The National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers (NBC-CAM) with its Service and Leadership Award.
The Service and Leadership Award was presented in recognition of Ms. Hirsch de Haan's service as a member of the Board of Commissioners of NBC-CAM, which administers the only national certification program for community association managers. Created by and affiliated with the Community Association Institute (CAI), NBC-CAM grants the Certified Manager of Community Associations credential to individuals who demonstrate fundamental knowledge and expertise in managing homeowner and condominium associations and cooperatives.
In making the presentation at the recent CAI National Conference in Las Vegas, Robert Felix, Chairman of NBC-CAM, stated, “Ellen Hirsch de Haan has consistently been a strong advocate for NBC-CAM, having served on the Board of Commissioners for 6 years—ultimately serving as our Treasurer. By bestowing this prominent award on Ellen, we recognize and applaud her significant achievements and contributions.”
The shareholder in charge of Becker & Poliakoff's Tampa Bay office, Ms. Hirsch de Haan has been practicing exclusively in Community Association Law since 1986. Active in leadership in the CAI on the national and local level throughout her career, she is a long-standing member of the CAI National Executive Committee, on which she served as National President. She also is a member of the National CAI Teaching Faculty, as part of the Professional Managers Designation Program.
In 2008, Ms. Hirsch de Haan received the CAI "Educator of the Year" award for her dedication to teaching, training and writing for various legal and industry publications. The attorney also is the Immediate Past President of the Foundation for Community Association Research, an organization devoted to common interest community research, development, and scholarship.
Ms Hirsch de Haan received her J.D. Degree from the University of Miami, where she is a lecturer on Community Association legal topics. She also holds a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts and a B.A. from Boston University. In 2011, Ms. Hirsch de Haan will celebrate her 25 th year with Becker & Poliakoff.
