Professional Experience
Ms. Sheekley is an experienced commercial and business litigation attorney, licensed to practice in Florida since 1985. She is “AV-Preeminent” rated (the highest level attainable) by Martindale Hubbell based upon the endorsement of her colleagues in the areas of professional conduct, ethics and ability. Following law school she clerked for the Honorable John M. Scheb at the Florida Second District Court of Appeal, and practiced law for fifteen years in Phoenix and Tucson Arizona before returning to Florida in 2001.
Her practice is concentrated in the areas of commercial and business torts, contract negotiation and litigation, and representation of community associations in collections, operations, covenant enforcement actions and litigation. She has extensive trial experience in many areas of the law, including insurance defense, contract and business litigation, and injunction actions. Her clients have included national and local businesses, municipalities, and individuals. She has undertaken complex litigation on behalf of developers, builders, business entities, a city government, and condominium associations.
Ms. Sheekley has:
- Successfully defended a North Florida municipality in federal court suit brought by national billboard company. The company challenged the municipality's land use ordinance and denial of billboard lease permit on due process and First Amendment grounds.
- Tried multi-million dollar wrongful death and neurological injury claims before juries which resulted in defense verdicts for clients represented.
- Injunctive relief and favorable settlements obtained in unfair competition and non-compete enforcement suits in state and federal courts for corporations conducting business operations in Florida and throughout the United States.
- Defended subcontractor breach of contract claim and obtained jury verdict award on counter-claim in favor of general contractor and owner of commercial construction project.
- Obtained favorable settlements in representation of condominium associations in complex lawsuits against developers .
- Tried numerous cases before judges and juries resulting in verdicts favorable to the clients.
Ms. Sheekley has been appointed to serve as Special Master with regard to discovery disputes in Okaloosa County Circuit Court cases.
